Dental X-rays help Drs. Armstrong and Tant detect and diagnose dental issues that are difficult to spot during a regular dental exam. X-rays allow our dentists to find tooth decay, examine the health of tooth roots and the surrounding bone, observe developing teeth, and monitor the overall health of your teeth and jawbone. Our panoramic X-rays show all of your teeth in the upper and lower jaws on one X-ray. Panoramic X-rays are used to examine the position of both fully emerged and emerging teeth. They are also used to locate and diagnose impacted teeth and to help our dentists diagnose tumors. Our dentists will decide how often to take X-rays based on your age, your oral health, and your risk of disease. Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Tant are proud to use digital imaging in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Traditional X-rays have film that has to be developed in a dark room. In contrast, digital imaging sends the X-ray images to a computer in just a few seconds. From there, the image can be viewed on screen, saved, or printed. Our dentists can digitally compare current images with old ones using subtraction radiography. Everything that is alike between the two images is taken out, leaving only an image of the area that is different. This allows our dentists to spot even the tiniest changes.
