A dental bridge is an appliance that closes the gap caused by one or more missing teeth. When a patient is missing one or more teeth, Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Tant may recommend a dental bridge in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Our office offers dental bridges made of porcelain. Our dentists may place a dental crown to:
- Restore your smile
- Restore your ability to chew and speak properly
- Maintain your face shape
- Properly distribute your bite
- Prevent your remaining teeth from shifting
There are three main types of dental bridges. Traditional bridges consist of dental crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap (abutment teeth) with a false tooth in between. This is the most common type of dental bridge. Cantilever bridges are not very common anymore. They are used when there is only an abutment tooth on one side of the missing tooth or teeth. Maryland bonded bridges, also called resin-bonded bridges, are made of replacement teeth and gums attached to a porcelain framework. The framework has wings on each side of the bridge that are bonded to your natural teeth.
